MEMBERS of fitness franchise, Curves, recently helped to raise funds totalling RM4,550 for the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (Nasam).

As part of its commitment to give back to society and to increase awareness on stroke prevention, Curves members received free membership for a month in exchange for a donation to Nasam.

Curves fitness centres are found in more than 90 countries. In Malaysia, there are 14 locations with over 2,500 members.

Curves is a 30-minute workout, incorporating strength training, cardio and weight loss guidance in an environment specially designed for women.

The association, established in 1996, is the first non-profit organisation in South-East Asia that provides rehabilitation and support to stroke survivors and their families.

Its mission is to inform the public that there is life after a stroke through proper rehabilitation and to promote stroke prevention.

A stroke may be caused by a blocked artery or the leaking or bursting of a blood vessel.

The best way to prevent stroke is to eat a healthy diet, avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol, and exercise regularly.
